India vs Australia on March 17

After registering a series win against the Aussies in the red-ball format, the Men in Blue will aim to dominate the rival side in the three-match ODI series beginning on Friday. Team India are without their regular skipper Rohit Sharma for the first ODI, however, stand-in captain Hardik Pandya has been quite impressive as a leader. Similarly, Steve Smith is set to lead the Aussies after regular skipper Pat Cummins headed back home owing to family reasons. Both sides have produced scintillating matches across all formats and the forthcoming ODI series will be no less. Speaking about their head-to-head records in the ODIs, a total of 143 matches have been played between the two heavyweights. Australia have a massive upper hand as they have emerged victorious in 80 ODIs. On the other hand, India have triumphed in 53 games. The two sides square off in the first 50-over clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, March 17. Moreover, both teams will look to find their combinations right and get their core team just in time for the 2023 ODI World Cup which will be played later on in India.

Best economical pick – Mohammad Siraj was in sensational form against New Zealand as he took five wickets from two innings. Siraj ranks first in the current ICC ODI Bowler's chart and has taken 14 wickets from his last five ODI innings.

Top captains & vice captains – 23-year-old Shubman Gill took New Zealand by storm in the ODI series in January with his scintillating batting performances. He scored a double-century and a ton in two of the three ODIs and will be gunning to get vital runs in the forthcoming clash against the Aussies to give blistering starts while opening. The stand-in Australian skipper Steve Smith struggled for runs in the recent Tests against India but has been in terrific form in white-ball cricket. Smith scored 195 runs from three innings against England with two fabulous fifties in the last ODIs.

Smart pick – Kuldeep Yadav has been in and out of the Indian team lately and will be looking to cement his regular place with impactful spells in the upcoming series. Kuldeep took six wickets from three innings against New Zealand in the last ODI series.

Cautious Pick – The world no.1 Test batter Marnus Labuschagne has struggled to make a similar impact in white-ball cricket. He scored just 70 runs from three innings against England in the last ODI series and should be avoided for this match.

My XI – Shubman Gill (Captain), Steve Smith (Vice-Captain), Mohammad Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Adam Zampa, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Virat Kohli, Lokesh Rahul, Ishan Kishan
